Corey

ADOPTED TO HIS FOREVER HOME!

Corey, aka Earth to Corey, is a beautiful, 3-year-old fawn female born March 5, 2006. Her sire is Fortified Power, making her grand sire the famous Fortress, and her dam is Jo Mama Pam, making her grand sire Gable Dodge. Corey’s 60-race career came to a halt when she pulled up and trailed in the 5th race on December 7, 2008, at Valley Race Park in Harlingen, TX. Corey started her career on August 26, 2007, at the Dubuque track in Iowa, moving to Valley Race Park in Harlingen, TX, for the 2007-2008 season, then back to Dubuque at that season’s close, and returning to Valley Race Park for the 2008-2009 season. It was her second race of the season when she suffered this career-ending injury, which was a right class IV central tarsal bone fracture with luxation and a lateral slab fracture of the right calcaneus. Dr. Doug Lange of the Dallas Surgery Center performed Corey’s surgery on December 13, 2008. Corey’s leg is now healed, and she is ready to find her forever home!

Corey is not cat tolerant, and has not been tested with small animals yet.

From Corey’s foster family:

Corey is a very beautiful and gorgeous girl who enjoys her people and her other canine playmates. She is extremely smart, focused and curious. No nook or cranny passes by Corey as she investigates everything in the house. She listens well and will come when she is called – most of the time! She is crate trained and stays in the crate while we are gone and many times can be found relaxing in her crate with the door open when we are home.

Corey loves toys and is a mass destructor of stuffies! So, we have opted for more sturdy toys like Kongs, tennis balls, and ropes. These seem to keep her very happy. This sweet girl also occasionally enjoys collecting items belonging to her people, but she does them no harm and she gives them up easily!

While Corey doesn't display alpha or dominant tendencies, she does likes to be in the circle of attention, and will make sure she gets her share of petting. She waits patiently to be fed and for her turn to be taken outside. She very politely takes treats from our hands.

Corey is a very good sleeper at night. She learned the nightly routine very quickly and heads off to the master bedroom to find a bed for the night. When she wakes in the morning, she gets in a good, long stretch and then will cheerfully tell you “good morning”! She is not a barker, but on occasion will talk a little bit. It is very cute!

Corey is a very typical greyhound in that she has her brief exuberant busts of energy and then is ready for a long hard nap! She loves pillows and all things soft. She is very smart and obedient, and gets along very well with other medium to large dogs. She will make a wonderful companion and will provide much joy to the lucky family who adopts her!
