Soprano, aka Dutch Soprano, is a 3-year-old white male with one brindle ear born May 19, 2010. He is on the small side for a boy, weighing in around 60 pounds. His sire is Soprano Drive and his dam is KB's Firehawk. Soprano suffered an injury to his right plantar ligament at the track on May 22nd, which ended his 53 race career at Gulf Greyhound Park. Soprano ran his first race on October 10, 2011, and his last on May 16, 2013. He is scheduled for evaluation by Dr. Bob Radasch at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center on May 30th.

Soprano has passed an initial cat test.

UPDATE 5/31/13

Soprano's plantar ligament injury was evaluated by Dr. Bob Radasch on May 30, and he thinks at this time that surgery is not required. Dr. Radasch is hopeful that this is just a very bad sprain that with time and rest, may repair. Soprano is being kept quiet and being watched very carefully in his foster home.

UPDATE 6/26/13

Although Soprano has been on very, very limited activity with strict crate rest, his right plantar ligament injury has escalated to non-weight bearing lameness with gross instability and angulation in his right intertarsal region. Dr. Bob Radasch performed surgery on June 25, placing an IM pin along with 16 gauge wire from the calcaneous to the metatarsal region with cancellous bone harvested from the right tibia to pack the arthrodesis site. It was a tedious surgery, but Dr. Radasch is anticipating Soprano will be back to using his right rear leg fairly well. As with all implants, these may have to be removed at a later date if issues arise. Soprano will have weekly bandage changes for the next 8-10 weeks. It is imperative that his foster home keep him on restricted activity during this time.

UPDATE 8/6/13

Because of severe cast sores, Soprano's cast had to be removed. However, his injury is not completely healed so he is being kept in his crate and being leash walked very carefully for the next 4 weeks. It is imperative that his mobility is kept to a minimum.

UPDATE 9/6/13

It is with very heavy hearts that we must announce that we lost Soprano today during his neuter surgery due to cardiac failure. There was nothing in his medical history and records to indicate anything was wrong. The vets and vet techs did everything possible to save him. His foster families gave him the most wonderful loving foster homes. Special hugs to each of them. Run fast and on winged feet sweet Soprano.
