Mayflower, aka SP's Mayflower, is a beautiful, 7-year-old black female born August 6, 2004. Her sire is Oshkosh Slammer and her dam is SP's May Day. Mayflower's 24-race career started on February 12, 2006, at Valley Race Park in Harlingen, TX, moving to Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque, TX, and finishing January 25, 2008, at VRP. Mayflower was in a home for several years, but has returned to GALT due to family relocation. She is ready to find her forever home once again.

Mayflower's cat test: Mayflower had some interest when she first saw the cat, her ears went up and she got a few good sniffs. Then Molly did her hiss, growl, and smack-smack-smack across her muzzle and Mayflower jumped back and stood there looking at her with her head cocked to the side as if to say, "What did I ever do to you to deserve that?" Then she walked away. I brought her back by Molly and she looked, but just walked by and she had the same reaction with the other docile cat. Mayflower is cat trainable. Hopefully she will have the same reaction to small dogs.

Miss Mayflower is a very sweet and loving little girl who smiles and gives little kisses. She is very affectionate and loves to be petted and scratched and even hugged. She is very smart and learns very quickly. Mayflower likes routine and quickly picks out 'her' bed and 'her' crate and paces a bit if someone else is using them.

She eats well and daintily. She has learned quickly which bowl is hers and waits for you to put her food down for her to eat. When she is finished she will sometimes see if she can help someone else finish their bowls, but walks away when you tell her 'No!'

Mayflower can be a bit timid at times, especially with new people. She loves her crate and if left open that is where she will spend lots of her time napping. When she wants some attention, she will come up to you smiling and licking as if saying, "I am a cute, loving girl, pet me – pet me!" If you are petting her while she is lying down, she will beg for more by pawing at you if you stop. She likes to play with, and gets along well with, the other dogs at our house and has learned to leave the cats alone. Mayflower knows her name and will come running when you call.

Mayflower likes to go for walks and she walks well on a leash. She likes to play with stuffed toys. She does not like to be corrected; she will lower her head, give you a sad look and go to her crate like she is very hurt. It is a good thing she learns the rules very quickly. It only takes a "No!" to get her to stop doing something that she should not be doing, which is seldom.

She has very good house manners and wants to please. At night she sleeps quietly on a dog bed in the bedroom.

Mayflower is enjoying retirement, loving those soft dog beds, and would love to have her own special forever home and family to love her. I think she would do best in a home with a fur-brother or sister; she gains confidence and is more comfortable being around other dogs. If you're looking for a very sweet, cute little girl – Mayflower might be just the sweetie for you.
