Phoebe is an 8-month-old black female with a white blaze on her nose born September 29, 2012. She is not tattooed and was found in Oklahoma on a Craigslist listing. She joined the GALT family with the help of volunteer Chelsi. Upon her medical evaluation, Dr. Christy Soileau discovered that Phoebe has a previously fractured right rear femur which is now healed; however, it was badly healed into a position that rotated her foot outward. Surgery was performed by Dr. Radasch of the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center. He realigned the bone, and the fracture was stabilized with a 7 hole, 3.5mm bone plate secured with 7 screws.

She has completed her recovery, but at this time it appears that her right rear leg will always be about an inch shorter than her left. Dr. Radasch would like to follow up with x-rays again when she is 10-months-old because her leg is possibly starting to rotate again, probably due to aberration and normal growth of the distal metaphyseal growth plate. Phoebe's kneecap is prone to some displacement which will be watched. These abnormalities are not affecting her ability to move - she is still quite the active puppy. It is possible she will need further corrective surgery after her skeleton is fully grown at 10 to 11 months of age.

Phoebe cannot be trusted with cats but gets along well with other dogs of all sizes, and especially loves big dogs!
