Zena is an approximately 3-year-old black female. She was found as a stray in Wise County, and is in bad shape. She's thin and has a horrendous case of mange. She is under treatment and continues to be medically evaluated. Zena is not cat or small dog tolerant at this time.
Zena is heartworm negative and negative to all tick borne diseases at this time. She is full of parasites, which along with the mange, is being treated. Her skin is looking much, much better thanks to the loving and caring staff of VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital. Hopefully her hair will start growing back.
Zena has completed all her medical procedures, and her hair is growing, growing, growing! This sweet girl is ready to find her forever home!
Recent blood tests reveal Zena has a positive titer positive to Ehrlichia Canis. Treatment for this condition has started and will continue for at least 6 weeks.
Zena has completed her treatment for Ehrlichia Canis and has a negative PCR test. This sweet girl is ready to find her forever home!
Zena is a little pistol - fearless and fancy free. She in no way resembles the mangy little girl that came to GALT earlier this year. With love and time she has blossomed into a happy, joyful puppy! Her hair is growing back nicely - her back has filled in and is just a little sparse on her sides and belly. She is a black beauty with a sparkle in her eye, super attentive ears and a bounce in her step. Treats and food are fun times as far as she is concerned, no crumbs left behind! When it's time to play, her super silly side shines. At that moment, any toy tossed is her favorite - and she is perfectly content to play all by herself. Balls, squeakies, chew toys, Kongs... anything and everything makes her happy. We crate her when we leave. Zena will follow a treat anywhere! She barks and roos at first and then settles down to nap. We leave the crate door open when we're home and she will sleep in her den if other dog beds are occupied. Zena does well on our walks though she does pull a bit so we use a harness for better control. Zena's ideal home will have a yard (on walks she just walks), a dog door would be preferable and other dogs to play with. She loves to hang out in the same room with her doggy housemates and will sleep close to them. At times her exuberance has got her into trouble with other dogs while in foster care. When she's overly excited she can be in their face and barky so she needs housemates that will respond favorably. Zena's bursts of energy don't last long and true to greyhound form, she sleeps hard to recharge her batteries. Speaking of sleep, Zena needs to be close to her people at night - a dog bed or crate in the bedroom is ideal. Zena loves to give kisses, get ear rubs, play with toys and be in the presence of people. If you have room in your house and heart for this zany girl, she is more than ready to love with all her heart.Zena's Foster Family
